Maplewood Academy has been in our family since my mom graduated in 1947. I graduated in 1971 and am a proud 50-year graduate of MWA, my husband Mike graduated in 1972, and our sons, Michael and Ronny, graduated in 1994 and 1996.
I was born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD, with my 3 brothers, all of whom are also graduates of MWA.
Mike and I married in 1974. He worked at Harris Pine Mills and, later, at Haugen Furniture. I worked in the Maplewood bookbindery until Michael was born in 1975. A while later, I worked in the office as secretary to the principal for about 10 years and then went to work full time for one of our industries, American Energy Systems, Inc., where I am still employed part time.
I also work in the MWA cafeteria as one of the supervisors, overseeing student workers as we prepare food for our students.
You might say this place is in our DNA!
